Well guys, what else can I say except Hooray!!!!!. Fishing off Nanaimo and Gabriola has been fantastic this past Month. It almost seems like we have more fish than our west coast counterparts. I am sure that will change over the next month as the west coast picks up. Fishing is still expected to remain very hot for the month of June as the fish continue to move in. We have seen many fish in the high twenty pound range with most of them coming from Thrasher Rock, the Grande and Waterfall. Reports now state that fish in the high 20's are being taken off Neck Pt and Clarke Rock. Depths have ranged from 60 to 120 feet, with the Coyote green /white spoon and the Green splatterback hootchie as the favourite. Reports from the Cannery indicate that the seals are creating a nuisance over there, but Neck Pt and the fingers seem to be okay. We will try to continue bringing you the latest news every week, but if you have any questions, please give us a call. Prawning is very slow, as the commercial boys are still hitting it hard, most likely into the middle of July. Crabbing appears to be better down the N.Cumberland channel than the usual Departure Bay spots. I am lucky enough to be going on a Halibut charter next week, and will give you a full report. P.S We are encouraging any anglers who need licences to please look at the online options to purchase fishing licences, both fresh and tidal via internet. The store gets very busy, and a fish hungry angler may have to wait awhile, for us to complete a licence. If you come to the store for a licence, please bring cash if possible. Regards Andy |
